THE MARKET - AUDIO GUIDE
AUDIO GUIDE TRANSCRIPTION
The Mercado de Abastos (the Market) was built in 1.894 by Juan Agapito y Revilla, an architect from Valladolid.
The Mercado de Abastos is a very good example of iron construction. All the iron pieces were done in a local foundry by Julio Petremet.
The Mercado de Abastos is a rectangle 60 meters long and 25.50 meters wide. It is divided in 3 different areas. The stalls are in these 3 different areas. The area in the middle is higher to light up the market.
The materials used to build the market were iron, brick, wood, glass and zinc. The architect used arches to contrast with the straight lines.
