MUSEUM OF PALENCIA - AUDIO GUIDE
AUDIO GUIDE TRANSCRIPTION
Formerly, the Museum of Palencia was found in the Council Office. Due to the amount of artworks it had, the Council decided to relocate it. For that purpose, the Council bought the Cord House, and old Renaissance inn from XVI century. The new Museum of Palencia was inaugurated on October 27th, 1997.
The Museum of Palencia is also known as Museum of the Cord, due to the cord that surrounds its front door.
The museum has three floors: Prehistory in the basement; Roman civilization in the ground floor; and Middle Ages in the first floor.
The Prehistory floor: it contains carved stone objects, hand axes, bell-shaped glasses, ceramic objects and goldsmithing.
The Roman civilization: it contains objects made of glass, terra sigilata, altars, stelas, coins, amulets, columns, construction materials, mural paintings and two busts found in Becerril de Campos. They are very important and valuable.
The Middle Ages floor: it contains construction materials, coins, ornaments, 2 capitals from St. Martín church in Frómista, 2 sarcophagi from the XIII century and an altarpiece from the XV century.
