As we have explained in the previous section, this web site is the result of a school project by Padre Claret Public Schools 5th grade students (10 – 11 years) during the 2014/2015 school year. Javier Garcia Luengo was the project coordinator and webmaster.
I created the project to motivate my students to write in English, because it is not an easy task for them to write in a different language. It is difficult and they don’t like it. Above all, it usually frightens students.
In order to overcome that barrier, I thought about creating audio guides about the most important monuments and interesting places in our hometown, Palencia. After that, we recorded and uploaded these audio guides into a website. Our website, of course, was writen in Spanish and English, as the audio guides were also written in both languages.
Part of this project is based on another school project: Peninsula de la Magdalena. This website was created by Raul Diego. I liked his project so I decided to adapt it to my school’s characteristics and my own computer skills. This website is the final result.
The website has a simple and basic style because I didn’t want to demotivate people to try doing the project or using the resources. Many times, teachers find interesting projects but they are so difficult to elaborate that thechers just don’t even try. That is why I have created a simple but useful website.

Main objectives:
- I wanted my students to overcome the fear of writing in a foreign language. Which Primary Education student doesn’t like group work, recording on the computer and uploading the results for his/her family to enjoy?
- I wanted my students to better understand the history of the city they are living in.
- I wanted to show my students, and the rest of teachers, how we can use the Internet to create our own materials in an easy and free way.
- I wanted to encourage other teachers to try this project in their own schools. The resources we used are included so teachers can implement the project easily in their respective schools.
