GUADIAN'S VEGETABLE GARDEN - AUDIO GUIDE
AUDIO GUIDE TRANSCRIPTION
Guadian’s Vegetable Garden is a park of about 17.000 square meters. There, you can see a lot of different plant species: Horse chestnut trees, Tulip trees, Palm trees, Fir trees, Cedars, Elm trees, Birch trees, Maples and Oaks. Many bird species live on these trees: Turtle doves, Robins, Sparrows…
In the 1860s, the Town Hall bought the land from Melchor Guadián, who was using it as a vegetable garden. The Town Hall wanted to build a gas factory there. Finally, this idea was abandoned. Instead, the Town Hall decided to create a park.
In the 1870s, the Town Hall provided the park with benches and a fence.
At the beginning of the XX century, the Town Hall built a children’s playground and a skating rink.
In the 1970s a church was rebuilt in the park. It was the Church of San Juan Bautista. It was originally in Villanueva del Río Pisuerga, a small village in the north of Palencia. The church is very small: it has a nave, a chancel and a semicircular apse.
